Balanced chemical reactions are given below -

For iron -

Atomic iron -

(Atomic iron, hence, valency zero. Reduction takes place)

3Fe + 4H2O --> Fe3O4 + H2

Ferrous iron -

(Here, valency of iron is +2)

Fe + H2O --> FeO + H2

Ferric iron -

(Here, valency of iron is +3)

2Fe + 3H2O --> Fe2O3 + H2O

For zinc -

Atomic zinc, hence, valency is zero.

Zn + H2O --> Zn(OH)2 + H2

H2 is gas.

H2O is water.

Zn(OH)2 is zinc hydroxide

Zn is zinc

Iron and zinc both are transition metals, belonging to period four. Iron belongs to group eight while zinc belongs to group twelve.
