In terms of tangible specific differences, Islamic reform movements usually try to eliminate the hatred between the sects of Islam and between Islam and other religions, they wish to increase toleration of homosexuality without condoning it (i.e. no punishment for gays, but no recognition of gay rights), an end to the criminalization (including the death penalty) for apostates and blasphemers, and a tendency to use rational discourse instead of demagoguery.
