Mountains- It is very difficult to establish settlements in mountains because of its rugged terrain, harsh weather and deficiency of resources like electricity. Mountains are suitable for sight- seeing, but not for settling. The altitude also results in low Oxygen level, and also very few crops grow in that climate.

Plains- Plains are suitable for settlements because of habitable climate, plain lands and easy transport. The hot and humid climate also helps in cultivation. The plain lands makes it easy to built houses too.

These are some reasons for dense population in plain lands.
