In the roots of leguminous plant there are nitrogen fixing bacteria like Rhizobium. They convert nitrogen from the atmosphere into usable form like nitrates that can be easily utilised by the plants. Nitrogen increases soil fertility. Thus, leguminous plants help in replinishing the soil fertilty.
