they have symbiotic bacteria called rhizobium in their root nodules which help in converting nitrogen into nitrates and nitrites..
when the leguminous plant dies the fixed nitrogen is released when it decomposes in soil making the other plant and soil available of Nitrogen..

bacteria called rhizobium convert nitrogen from atmosphere into nitrates and nitrites which are used by plants and animals. When these plants and animals die these bacteria and rhizobium converts nitrates and nitrites into atmospheric nitrogen again. This cycle continues.
