Leguminous plants have a bacteria present in their root nodules which is known an rhizobium. It is a natural nitrogen fixing agent which converts inorganic nitrous to a form that can be easily absorbed by plants, and hence make the soil rich in nitrogen and fertile.

These bacteria convert atmospheric nitrogen into forms that are usable by the plants such as ammonia. They restore the lost nitrogen content of the soil. h
