Algae and fungi are present in water bodies. When water bodies  are polluted, this pollution acts as food for fungi and algae.Absorbing this food requires oxygen. They use this oxygen from the water body. This leads to decreasing of oxygen level of the water body resulting in death of aquatic animals present in the water body. This process is known is EUTROPHICATION.
