# What is a magnet?

→ The word magnet is arrived from Greek word 'Magnesian' which comes from the place where magnet is believed to be originated.
A magnet is a material or object which produces magnetized waves which can attract ferromagnetic objects .

=========================================

Magnets have the ability to attract materials such as iron , nickel and cobalt which are made up of ferromagnetic materials , It also attracts some natural rocks like lodestone.

=========================================

Magnets don't attract or repel any other materials which are non magnetized . so, their behavior with other materials rather than ferromagnetic materials is null.
