Mendel show that traits are inherited independently by his experiment between round yellow seeds and wrinkled green seeds which when he crossed found F1 generation and when he crossed the F1 generation again he found some round yellow seeds and wrinkled green seeds but now there with new combination of round green and wrinkled yellow seeds this shows that traits are inherited independently .

Genes located on different chromosomes will be inherited independently of each other. Mendelobserved that, when peas with more than one trait were crossed, the progeny did not always match the parents. This is because differenttraits are inherited independently – this is the principle of independent assortment.
