Answer: a. Ion formation:- Metal atoms lose electrons to form positive ions (cations ) non-metal atoms gain electrons to form negative ions (anions ).

b. The chemical nature of their oxides:-  Oxides of metal are basic in nature. while oxides of non-metals are acidic in nature.

c.  The electronic configuration of atom​:-  If an element have more than 4 electrons in its outermost shell than it will be considered as non-metal and an element having less than 4 electrons in its outermost shell it will be a metal.
