Metal oxides are generally basic in nature e.g. mg(metal) oxygen forms-mgo (magnesium oxide )which is basic in nature. Whereas non metal oxides are acidic in nature e.g. ph(non metal) oxygen forms -ph2o3(phosphorous oxide)which is acidic in nature
