You must have found that non- metals generally do not react with acids but metals react with acids and produce hydrogen gas that burns with a 'pop' sound. You must have noticed that copper does not react with dilute hydrochloric acid even on heating but it reacts with sulphuric acid.

Answer:

Acid reacts with most metals and when they do , they form salts . But we do not get water, instead we get hydrogen gas . So when acid reacts with metals we get salt and hydrogen gas . They undergo a simple displacement method .

Non metals do not generally react with acids because when a substance reacts with acids it provides electrons to the H+ ions produced by the acids. Non metals are acceptors of electrons and hence , they cannot donate .
