metals reacts with oxygen to form metal oxide which are basic in nature.
eg: 2Mg (magnesium)+O2 =2Mgo(magnesium oxide)
metal react with water and displace hydrogen from water to form metal hydroxide and hydrogen gas.
eg: Zn (zinc)+H2O(steam)=ZnO(zinc oxide)+H2 (hydrogen)
metal react with acid to form salts and hydrogen gas.
eg:Zn + H2SO4 (sulphuric acid)=ZnSO4(zinc sulphate)+H2
a layer of zinc is deposited on the metal surface of iron object by dipping it in molten zinc .this is called galvanisation.
zinc used for galvanisation
a layer of another metal is deposited on the surface of metal object by the process of electroplating.
chromium is used for electroplating.
