Pond ecosystem are the freshwater ecosystem. Ponds are shallow water bodies in which sunlight (source of energy) can reach at the bottom promoting the growth of the plants growing there. It is a natural ecosystem. The abiotic components of a pond are fishes, aquatic insects, microbes, phytoplanktons and the abiotic components includes, water, air, soil etc. These organisms can be classified as producers, consumers and decomposers. The energy flows from producer to consumers. All plants and animals are dependent on each other.
For example: It starts with phytoplankton which prepare their own food with the help of sunlight (producers). They are eaten by zooplanktons, which are eaten by small fish. Finally, small fish are eaten by big fishes.
Phytoplanktons → Zooplanktons → small fish → big fish
