The organisms that can't migrate tend to overcome adverse environmental issues by the process of suspension of their metabolic activities. The suspension can be termed in different ways for many different organisms. Hibernation is for Bears. Aestivation is for aquatic animals. Diapause is for the Zooplanktons. The words are different but they all have the same meaning of suspension of the metabolic activities.
