Answer:

PIL means Public Litigation Interest. In India access to courts have always been difficult for a vast majority of the poor . Legal procedures are complicated and involves a lot of money and time. The poor and the illiterate find it extremely difficult to to go to court for justice. Thus the Supreme Court introduced PIL whereby any person or an organisation can file a PIL in the High or in the Supreme Court on the behalf of those people whose rights are violated. PIL thus supports the democratic system because anyone can file a case on the behalf of poor, weak and illiterate people.
