How do plants obtain energy for photosynthesis

Instead of taking in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide like animals do, plant take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. plant absorb water from the ground up through their roots. During photosynthes is the energy from the sun splits the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
