How do plants obtain nitrogen

Plants take nitrogen from the soil by absorption through their roots as amino acids, nitrate ions , nitrite ions, or ammonium ions .Plants do not get their nitrogen directly from the year. Plants get the nitrogen that they need from the soil, where it has already been fixed by bacteria and archaea .

Leguminious plants such as gram,pea etc get nitrogen through a bacteria called rhizobium which present in the root nodules of that plants. They take nitrogen from atmosphere and make it into nitrogenous substances and give it to plant. This is called nitrogen fixation..
