How do plastics affect marine life? What are it's substitutes ?

Pieces of plastics pollute water bodies. They are often swallowed by small aquatic animals like fishes, turtles, etc. the plastics then passes through their gills and blocks it. Thus, plastics cause a decline in the marine life.

Another harmful effect of plastics is that it makes the water and the animals toxic. Small pieces of plastics swallowed by fishes are often not harmful to them but when we eat fishes, it can harm us.
