The transfer of pollen from anther to stigma of a flower is known as pollination.

It occurs in plants with the help of pollinators e.g. insects, birds, human beings, water, wind etc.

After pollination i.e when the pollen lands on stigma it forms a pollen tube passing through the style and entering the ovule. In the ovule egg cell ( female gamete) is present, the pollen tube enters the egg cell and thus the male gamete fuses with female gamete.

The fusion of male and female gamete to form a zygote is known as fertilization. Thus, pollination leads to fertilization.
