In India poverty is a huge problem that affects almost 60% of the population. Poverty is a great hindrance for young children and in many places of India, children are not sent to school due to poverty but are used as a means of income for the family.
- An example of poverty and ignorance of parents hindering the growth of children can be the number of children sent to streets near temples and monuments so that they could bring income to their families. These parents do not know the importance of education and don't send their children to school for education.
- They see children as a means to support their families. They feel that the more the children the more they can earn so they do not use birth control measures but would try to have as many children as possible so that they can have different streams of income. These types of income are generated from begging for doing manual labour work from children as young as age four.
- One of the most important ways to stop this from continuing is to create awareness among the people that not sending a child to school is not a good choice. We need to make them aware that educating children would not only help the children but also them in the long run.
