Pressure groups and Movements, are a necessity in any country. In their absence, whatever form of government a country may have, it will slowly move towards a kind of dictatorship. It will become a one-man rule or a one-party rule, with no organisation or Movement to question it, or engage in debates over critical topics and laws.

Pressure groups and Movements help to maintain a healthy balance in a democracy, by keeping check on policies and laws.

Examples of pressure groups/Movements in India are the Trade Unions such as BMS, CITU, HMS, INTUC, AITUC etc., business associations such as FICCI, agricultural organisations such as AIKS, BKU etc.
