they help and support the plants and prevent them from falling ..prop roots are seen in banyan trees they support branches of banyan tree whereas stlit roots are seen in sugarcane,maize ..they help the plant to stand erect...

Prop root pass down into the soil in a vertical position while stilt roots develop obliquely at an angle to the stem ...prop root provide support to the plant like A pillar or polls while still roots provide support like ropes of a tent or pole.
