Rapid Urbanisation and industtialisation cause river pollution because , due to the increase in urbanisation and industrialisation , the more wastes and impurities are being dumped into the rivers which cause river pollution

The growing demand of water from rivers for domestic Municipal Industrial and agricultural purposes affect the quality of water as a result more and more water is being drained out of the river reducing their volumes

A heavy load of untreated sewage and Industrial effluents are drained into the river. this affects the quality of water as well as the self cleaning capacity of the river


For example the Ganga water is able to dilute an assimilate pollution loads within 20 km of large cities but the increasing urbanization and industrialization do not allow it to happen and pollution level of many rivers has been rising
