plants, water transport minerals salts through special tubes called xylem. Plants have root hairs on their primary and secondary roots. Plants absorb water and minerals salt from the soil with the help of root hairs. ... So the water moves into the root hairs through osmosis.

Answer

The root hair cell absorbs water from the soil by imbibitions and osmosis. Absorption of water takes place with the help of root hairs. There are two major ways by which water is absorbed in the root system

(a) Passive absorption of water :

  • Absorption of water caused due to the forces generated in the aerial parts of the plant body is called passive absorption of water.
  • Absorption of water by passive mechanism involves two important phenomena , water potential gradient and transpiration pull.

(b) Active absorption of water :

  • absorption of water caused due to the forces generated in the root itself is called active absorption.
  • It is also known as absorption of water by the root.
