Diwali is appreciated as the 'festival of lights' and all the places are illuminated with small ceramics oil lamps known as Diyas. Diwali, the Festival of Light, originates at the end of October or early November. For Sikhs, Diwali is especially significant because it commemorates the liberation from the jail of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind, and 52 other royalties with him, in 1619.
