How do Standby and Hibernation help in saving power?

StandBy power mode is used when electric power consumed by electronic  appliances are switched off yet they draw power continuously but they are in a non-working state.

Hibernation is powering down a computer yet it is in a working state. The computer saves the RAM contents onto a hard disk or other non-volatile storage devices to avoid loss. Hibernate mode is deeper than the StandBy mode so it needs more power also.

The biggest disadvantage of StandBy is the risk involved of losing data on which the work was going on and midway the power goes out. So, as a precautionary measure, one needs to save the data before putting the computer in the Hibernate mode option.

Hope it helps!!!
