Storage grain loss occurs due to biotic and abiotic components such as in biotic - insects , Algae etc and in abiotic - temperature , climate , pericipitation etc .

They occur due to fungal growth. When grains are harvested, they have moisture content. If they  are not dried in the sun before storage, fungi may grow, which leads to discolouration, poor germinability and marketability.

It also occurs due to insects. They eat the grains.
