Hey mate here is your answer

The efficiency of movement of substances in and out of a cell is determined by its volume to surface area ratio. Selected substances can move up a concentration gradient with the help of specialized molecules embedded in the membrane. This is called assisted diffusion or active transport.

Hope this answer will help you!!!

Oxygen and nutrients must enter the cell ;carbon dioxide and other waste must leave it the basic processes by which substances move through cell membranes are simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion ,osmosis and exocytosis etc.
