Superstitions are basically beliefs of supernatural powers and I think that they truely affect our thinking as we always have blind belief on such things , by which our behaviour is strongly influenced.

Superstitions affect our thinking and our behaviour too.  Superstitions are the beliefs that we may have formed ourselves or told by our ancestors. They are some sayings without a solid reason or scientific foundation behind them.

For example, see a good face just immediately on opening our eyes in the morning. Look at who comes opposite to you (in front of you) when you leave the house in the morning for work.

The superstitions sometimes give mental strength to a person for acting strong and do better. The strong belief that the person has due to superstition makes him or her perform better. Also they make a commonly followed pattern of living for people.

On the other hand, superstitions could damage one's life too.  Sometimes one may not follow good healthy ways of life due to superstitions. One may take a lot of inconvenience due to these beliefs. Also, it could become embarrassing to explain them to children.  Children and teens are confused why they cannot do something or why they have to do something.  Superstitions cause conflicts.  We cannot think freely, creatively and independently for our best.

Sometimes it is advantageous and sometimes it is disadvantageous. However, it is preferable to follow scientific practices and analyze the superstitions.
