In the poem 'Animals', the American transcendentalist poet-Walt Whitman describes the nature of animals and how he wishes to be like them. He asserts that since animals don't think in the complicated manner humans think they do not have so many problems and issues in life.  

They accept everything that is meted out to them without raising their voices or questioning or complaining. The poet feels they are better off than humans for their submissive attitude. He would thus love to be with them than the humans as animals reflect more of his traits than humans.
