How do the feathers of a bird protect it from the cold?

the feathers of birds are warm that's why it protect birds from cold

The feathers of a bird have small air pockets in them as we know that the air is a bad conductor of heat, it does not allow the heat of bird 's body to transmit and loose it heat. Hence the feathers of the birds protect them from the cold.
