History of clothing in India
Indians wear mainly locally developed cotton clothes. India was one of the earliest destinations where cotton was cultivated and was also used as early as 2500 BC during the harappan period. The remains of the ancient Indian clothing can be found in the Indus valley civilization, rock - cut sculptures, cave paintings, and sculptures from the forms of human art found in temples and monuments. They also put on human clothes which can be wrapped around the body. Taking the examples of saris as turbans and dhotis, traditional Indian wear were mostly torn around the body in many ways. The clothing system was also concerned with the social and economic condition of the individual.
