In living organisms, respiration occurs at two levels; at the body level and at the cellular level. In case of the respiration occuring at the body level , oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged between the body and the surrounding . Cellular respiration occurs by two methods , namely aerobic respiration ( oxygen is involved ) and anaerobic ( oxygen is not involved ) . In anaerobic respiration, glucose is oxidized in three steps ,that is glycolysis , tricarboxylic acid cycle ,and electron transfer chain reaction . Anaerobic respiration involves only two steps : glycolysis and fermentation.
