The pinna which is the outer ear collects sound from the surroundings and pass through auditory canal. At the end of auditory canal there is a thin membrane which is the ear drum. When the compressions of sound reaches it,moves inward and when rarefaction reaches it moves outward. In this way eardrum vibrates.
