Trichomes are small outgrowths found in many types of plant stems and leaves on the epidermis. Glandular cells that make, store and produce substances, primarily valuable essential oils, are at the ends of the hairs of these specialized structures. They have different structures and functions depending on its location. e.g. hairs, root hairs, papillae and scales.

A root hair is a vascular plant rhizoid that is a tubular branch of a trichoblast, which is a type of hair that forms a cell on a plant root's epidermis. The root hair takes in water and essential nutrients found in the soil and takes it up to various parts of the plants.
