How do tides help the ships

In my opinion tides don’t help navigation. They affect the operation of vessels in or near the ocean. As a mariner you are at their mercy. You must plan your navigation to cope with them.
In most places there are 2 tide per day and they range from few inches to a whooping 54 feet in the bay of Fundy on the Gulf of Maine. This is the vertical component of the tides. This rise of the water produces a horizontal component called tidal currents and they can be very influential to ship and boats.
