Plants produce oxygen during the process of photosynthesis. This is released into the air. ...
Animals use oxygen from the air for the process of respiration.
There is a balance between the excess oxygen given out by plants and the oxygen used by animals, so that the percentage of oxygen in dry air is always the same.

Plants take in Carbon Dioxide and water during the day in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll to perform Photosynthesis. Oxygen is a by-product of photosynthesis which is released in the atmosphere.
Whereas at night, plants take in Oxygen and release Carbon Dioxide in the air therefore balancing Oxygen-Carbon Dioxide content in the atmosphere.
Hope this helps
