In the summer seasons, leaves use sunlight, water, and air to make the tree's food, in a process called photosynthesis. In that process, the tree loses a lot of water through tiny holes in the leaves. In winter, the tree does not get enough water to replace what it would lose through the leaves.

in the winter plants rest and leave off stored food until spring. as plants grow they shed order leaves and grow new once this is important because the leaves become damaged over time by insects decrease and weather the shedding and replacement continues all the time
