Classification of the Elements. The next thing in our review is to classify the elementsinto three groups. These three groups are: metals, nonmetals, and inert gases. Let's look at where these groups are located on the periodic table and correlate them with the ability to lose and gain electrons.

we can classify elements by its properties and different functions . for example :metals show different functions like ductlity , producing a ringing sound when strick, have shine etc but in non metals we can't find the properties as similar.
so through different characters we can classify elements..
