Heya, Friend here's the answer-
People conserve water during Ancient times by using the following methods.-
1. Jhalara- It was a step well which was rectangular in shape and also had tired steps. They collected the subterranean seepage of an upstream reservoir or a lake.
2. Kul- These were the diversion channels and it carried water from glacier to the village. It spans over long distances and it was mostly used in Jammu and Himachal pradesh.
3. Taanka- It was a underground pit(cylindrical paved) into which rainwater from rooftops, courtyards or artificially prepared catchments flows. It was mostly used in Thar desert of Rajasthan.
4. Katta- It was made by the farmers by binding muds and loose stones. It was mostly used in village areas.
5. Bamboo drip irrigation system- In this a bamboo stick is used to conserve water. Steam or spring water is mainly used for it. It was done to irrigate the plantations. It is a 200 year old system. And was mostly practised in Meghalaya.
Hope it helps : ))
