In social psychology, a stereotype in an overgeneralize belief about a particular category of people. Stereotype is generalized because one assumes that the stereotype is true for each individual person in the category. While such generalization may be useful when making quick decision, they may be erroneous when applied to particular individuals. Stereotype encourage prejudice and may arise for a number of reasons.
