The majority of words that end in -e or -ion are feminine.

Except words ending in -age, -ege, -é, or -isme (these endings often indicate masculine words).

Most other words are masculine.

Sometimes you can use Hindi here.

Eg-  L'horloge(clock)

if you know Hindi then you can say "the clock is hanging on the wall" (Ghadi diwaar pe tangi hai)

the use of "tangi" indicates it is feminine.

But I am not sure if it is aplicable for all nouns or not.

Still it is pretty useful.
