5x=4y

x = 4y/5

After 8 years their ages will be

x+8 and y+8 resp.

x= 4y/5

Therefore,x+8 = 4y/5 +8

x+8/y+8 = 5/6

((4y+40)/5)/y+8 = 5/6

(4y+40)/5y+40 = 5/6

24y+240 = 25y+200

y = 40 years

x = 4y/5 = 4(40)/5 = 160/5 = 32 years
