As latitudes are parallel the latitudes have a 4 minute difference in them so there is a gain or loss in the day

The International Date Line (IDL) is represented by the red line. This image shows the situation when it is 16:00 Hrs. on Tuesday at the West of the IDL and 16:00 Hrs. on Monday at the East of the IDL.
The IDL itself is a tricky place to be. It is a land (only a tiny strip of water though, at 180 degrees, 0 minutes, 0 seconds and 0 parts of a second) of two days! You could say it is Monday or Tuesday, depending on what you would like to believe.
Move East of the IDL and it is Monday, move West and it is Tuesday. The time though, remains the same, whatever time of the day it is. That is how you gain or lose a day.
It is all because of the way we define and measure time. You really do not lose or gain days in your life.
