How do we get to know that we have to solve for x and y or a and b...
Check the image below..just answer my question ..plz I don't want the mathematical solution for the question below..

Check the main question. In it must be written whether you have to solve for x and y or for a and b.
If not, then conventionally solve for x and y with respect to a and b as constants.
[p.s. it's conventional to use a and b as constants in questions like these. Just solve for x and y. Hope you get what I mean. a and b aren't actually constants, but are used like they are constants.]
