How do we know whether a mixture is homogeneous or heterogeneous

If the mixture has a uniform composition throughout its mass,then we can say that the mixture is homogeneous.
But,If the mixture has a non-uniform composition throughout its mass,then we can say that the mixture is heterogeneous.

Here,Uniform Mass means evenly distributed.
