A thermal infrared camera is used to image heat . Heat is measured in quantities called joules. Heat can also be measured in calories.

Heat's actual SI unit is joules according joules law of heating effect.
So it is measured in joules.
It works on the principle that --
H = IsquareRT (for series connection)
And,
H= VsquareT/R( for parallel connection)
It means the heat produced is the amount of current flowing through a resistance in a specific time
