Light is a white light made up of seven colors . As the seven colours fall on object the color of light which it reflects enters the retina & transmits the messege to the brain . The image color formed in our brain is seen by us. It depends on the range of light & the absorption & reflection by a material.

White object seems to be white because it reflects all seven colors. Black absorbs all color so it don't reflect any color due to absorption of light.

The light falls on retina ( the black spot on the eye ) . It reaches to the photoreceptors & convert the light wave into an electric signal . The electric signal reaches the brain through a nerve called as an optic nerve. The signal make an reverse image on retina but in brain again reversed to form a straight & correct image to see.

The human eye and brain together translate light into color. Light receptors within the eye transmit messages to the brain, which produces the familiar sensations of color. Newton observed that color is not inherent in objects. Rather, the surface of an object reflects some colors and absorbs all the others.

The iris (the colored part of the eye) controls how much light the pupil lets in. Next, light passes through the lens (a clear inner part of the eye). The lens works together with the cornea to focus light correctly on the retina. ... These electrical signals travel from the retina through the optic nerve to the brain.
