We study society(s) through the application of either or both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

But before we apply those research methods we must first determine the theoretical basis informing the study; the aims and key research questions; the context for the study; and the timeline.

In truth, no one studies societies as they are too large. We can only get a snapshot of ‘reality’ in time.
